Recovery Peers November 2024 (OHA-Sponsored Seats!)
Recovery Peers is a comprehensive training for individuals aiming to support youth in recovery. It's the perfect compliment for Youth Recovery Support Specialists who have already gone through a Youth Peer Delivered Services training and are looking to gain extra knowledge and skills when working with youth experiencing addiction, navigating substance use, and exploring recovery pathways.

What You'll Be Learning
⭐ The Role of a YRSS: What your role is and how the Behavioral Health Recovery Network and M110 model relates to what you do
⭐ Harm Reduction: The history, principles & practices, and myths of harm reduction
⭐ Substance Use and Safer Practices: The effects of substances and the importance of providing safer-use supplies
⭐ Barriers and Disparities: The barriers in receiving and accessing care and how it connects to Social Determinants of Health, including the role of adultism in recovery
⭐ Stigma and Language: The impact of stigma and how the words we use can either perpetuate or dismantle stigma
⭐ Trauma-Informed Care (TIC): Looking at trauma and trauma-informed care practices, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), epigenetics, and resilience, and ethical considerations and boundaries
⭐ Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Positive Youth Development (PYD): Applying MI techniques in engaging youth in recovery and how to use PYD to foster resilience and empowerment in the youth we serve
⭐ Group Facilitation: Effective group facilitation skills and supporting community connectedness and mutual aid
⭐ Crisis, Overdose, & Loss: Skills and strategies for supporting and deescalating youth in crisis, overdose signs & Narcan use, and the possibility & impact of loss
⭐ Personal Resilience & Ethical Decision Making: Supporting you as a YRSS to feel more confident in your role
